Fees & Insurance

I believe that therapy works best in an atmosphere of absolute confidentiality (with the understanding, of course, that I must comply with the law in attempting to prevent a patient from inflicting harm on self or others). Confidentiality in general, however, can be maintained only when one eschews association with insurers, because insurers require that the patient waive his or her rights and provide access to a significant amount of highly personal information.

I also believe that critical decisions should be made with no external interference and as an integral part of the treatment process. Insurers, however, often dictate the length of sessions, how long treatment should last, whether medication is indicated, whether the patient is making progress and what topics should be discussed. Doing so restricts both patient and therapist, often to the detriment of the treatment.

I arrive at an affordable fee in consultation with each patient. As I do not accept insurance and am not a member of any insurance panel, I am flexible. When a patient has indemnity insurance that offers reimbursement to independent providers, however, I will provide a bill marked "paid" so that my patient can file an insurance claim.
